This Little Pig Halloween

We don't get to do anything for Halloween this year because I have a final tomorrow but I can never resist dressing Tucker up. Tim and I found a pig costume for him at Target. He usually likes dressing up but he hates wearing things on his head and this has a pig head, so he didn't like it very much. I just took a few pictures real quick for the blog and then let him take it off.

Make Me Babies 2

This site is hilarious! You upload a picture of yourself and your partner and it creates what it says your babies will look like if you have a child with the person. These are Tim and my little boy and girl.

What do you think about my little new baby Keegan?

Special Attributes...

I am applying to try to get an interview with the Tarrant County (Fort Worth) District Attorney's Office. They are coming to Baylor to interview on November 19th. On the application, it asks what special attributes I would bring to their office. I can think of the "normal" responses (hard-working, reliable, organized, personable, etc.) but I was trying to think of something different to put on there that would stick out more than the normal responses.

Anyone have any ideas?

Weekend

This weekend we went to The Woodlands for a friend's wedding. Matt, the groom, started law school with Tim. We stayed at The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center. It has a little pond/lake on the property that has various creatures that live in it. Whenever we took a walk, we saw this creature...

Originally, we thought it was a beaver. Then, we realized it didn't have the tail like a beaver. Our friend, Lauren, was also at the wedding and is a veterinarian. We showed her the picture and she said it looks like a Nutria. She said they are the biggest rodents. Gross. It does live in the water and has webbed feet, but is a lot grosser than a beaver...at least to me.
The wedding was very pretty and the food was great! Here is a picture of the groom with our friends Lauren and Tennessee. Matt, the groom, is in the middle. Lauren and Tennessee are engaged and getting married April 25.
After the reception, we went to a bar called Bakers in The Woodlands. In order to go to the bathroom, you had to push on what looked like a bookshelf to open a door to the bathroom area. It was pretty cool.
They had some Halloween themed drinks that, if you ordered one, you got a free pair of vampire teeth. Lauren and I decided we must have the teeth, so we both ordered a drink from the menu. Here is us with our teeth in.

Many more pictures of us biting our significant others ensued. It was a good time!
Other than that I have just been studying for finals. Not very fun.
Hope everyone had a fun weekend!

Interview Update

When I got to work about 10:30 today, I found out the Harris County DA had just called to ask my boss about me! I don't know anything for sure about a third interview yet, but at least that means they are probably interested in me!

Free Chocolates = Phishing

Someone on The Nest (April, MrsReaux) found this website where you can get free chocolates. They looked DELICIOUS and I, as well as a few other people on the Dallas/Ft Worth Nest, had to have a free sample of these chocolates. Well, the next day, someone posted that they found out it was a phishing scam :( . I don't know what this means they will do with my information - they got my e-mail address and actual physical address, but it makes me very sad that I got duped and that I'm not going to get free yummy chocolate. Boo hoo. If you see a link to this website http://www.haydeechocolatier.com/sample.php for free chocolate, don't fall for it!

We're carving our pumpkin tonight, so I will post pictures!!

Plaque

I asked Tim to hold the plaque while I took a picture of it. He thought that was stupid, so he acted silly in the picture....He is disappointed with the plaque and said he would have rather had a baby shoe.

It turns out it is just a piece of wood painted black with a shoelace glued to it and a card about the 5k behind some plastic. haha...maybe not better than the shoe.

Weekend & Wreath

I went to Boerne this weekend to visit my mom. It's her birthday next weekend but Tim and I are going to a wedding and to Carolyn's baptism, so we won't be able to be there for the actual day. We had a girl's weekend because Sonny (my stepdad) was out of town and Tim stayed here in Waco.

Friday we went and ate at Carrabba's - my favorite restaurant! Saturday we went shopping at La Cantera, went to Hobby Lobby, and got pedicures as well as ate at a good restaurant in Leon Springs called The Grill. Today we went and ate breakfast and then I came back to Waco. My mom wanted a Wii and Wii Fit for her birthday, so that's what Sonny got her but we got it sent to our apartment so she wouldn't know about it. I brought it for her this weekend. The Wii Fit is really cool! I just did a basic intro and today she did the whole first training program. She really likes it.

Tim ran in a 5k here in Waco (CASA Speak Up For Kids 5k) with his friend Aaron and one of Aaron's friends. The three of them got 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in their age group! He got a plaque, which was better than the prizes last year. Last year I won 1st in my age group and the prize was a baby shoe. I obviously couldn't run it in because of my knee - which, by the way, is actually getting better and I was able to do a little exercise this past week in physical therapy and it didn't hurt! I will post a picture of Tim's plaque as soon as I see it.

When my mom and I went to Hobby Lobby, I got a wreath and some ornaments to decorate it. I had seen a wreath in the Pottery Barn catalogue that I liked but it was $99 and I decided I could make one that I liked even better for less money. Here is the final product!

It has a big space at the top because my mom ordered Tim and I this really pretty wreath holder from Pottery Barn that says "The Thornes" but it hasn't come in yet. I don't really already have it hanging on the door. I just put it there for the picture!

Hope everyone had a great weekend! I am in finals lockdown mode now, so I've got to get to studying!

Interview & Ornaments

The interview went well. It was 20 minutes long with 5 people from the DA's office. I think I did well overall. They are narrowing the pool of potential offerees down from 60 to 20 or 30 and I should find out in 3 to 4 weeks whether or not I will get a third interview. If I were to get a third interview, I should find out about a week after that interview whether or not I got a job. They are planning on offering 8 to 10 people jobs. I found out that they narrowed down the applicants from 300-500 to 60 people for this second interview - so I was pretty excited I did well enough to be one of the 60. I'll keep y'all posted.

On another note, I got my ornaments from my Secret Santa exchange on The Nest today! They are from Tanya, who also lives in Waco (very crazy coincidence that she got my name!). I love them - they are red and silver and very pretty! I will try to take pictures of them tonight and post them tomorrow.

That's about all. Hope everyone had a nice day!

Interview & Funny E-mail

I have my job interview with the Harris County District Attorney tomorrow at 2:00, so please keep me in your thoughts - for the interview as well as the long drive! I will post tomorrow night about it.

Funny e-mail I got the other day...

If you had purchased $1,000 of Delta Air Lines stock oneyear ago, you would have $49 left.

With Fannie Mae, you would have $2.50 left of the original $1,000.

With AIG, you would have less than $15 left.

But, if you had purchased $1,000 worth of beer one yearago, drunk all of the beer, then turned in the cans for thealuminum recycling REFUND, you would have $214 cash.

Based on the above, the best current investment advice isto drink heavily and recycle.

It's called the 401-Keg.

Have a good day!!

Fall!

In honor of a little cooler weather and because I was a little bored today, I decided to change up the blog! I think my signature picture might be a little big, but other than that it puts me in the mood for cooler weather and Thanksgiving. This is another reason I can't wait for Christmas...to make another new layout!

Happy Monday everyone :)

Weekend

We had a quiet weekend. We stayed in Waco so that I could get some studying done for finals and we could relax a little bit.

Friday, we went to Hobby Lobby and bought some ornaments for our Christmas tree. It really made me wish it was already after Thanksgiving so that I could go ahead and put everything for Christmas out! We also went to HEB and got some tamales and had tamales for dinner. They were good!

Saturday, we slept in a little and then I got of my outlines caught up while we watched a little football. Unfortunately, the Aggies lost again :( It seems like Jerod Johnson, our quarterback, keeps improving, so I am still hopeful things will get better. We also went and saw the movie Quarantine. We really like scary movies and this one was definitely scary! I felt like my heart was going to bust out of my chest it was beating so hard and Tim said he felt like he kept shaking. Luckily, we saw it as a matinee so we didn't have to walk out in the dark. We ordered pizza for dinner and I spent the night studying while Tim job searched.

Today, we went to church and then went to my dad's to eat lunch, watch football, and meet my brother's (Alex) girlfriend (that's probably embarassing of me to say!!). She was really sweet and had a great personality - we really liked her. Now we are back at home watching the Cowboy's play and I am about to get back to studying.

Hope y'all had a nice weekend and have a good beginning of the week!

Job Update

Thank you for all the prayers everyone sent up for us. Tim got a letter today telling him he didn't get the job he interviewed for in Fort Worth. We are obviously upset and discouraged by this.

We are lucky that he has a clerking job to give us some income in the meantime, but he desperately wants an actual associate position. He gets his bar results in November and we are hoping that he will have some better luck at least after that - if not before.

Please, please, please have us in your prayers. We are so hopeful he will find an associate position soon but are becoming saddened by the situation thus far.

TV Shows & Christmas Ornaments

Not too much has been going on this week, so I haven't had anything to update about. I do want to say I'm really tired of the debates because it is messing up the shows I like to watch. Tim and I really like watching House and the new show that comes on after it - Fringe. This week they were both reruns because of the debate. Also, last week Grey's Anatomy was a rerun because of the debate. I don't like watching them because they make me nervous and I just get upset.

We didn't end up going to the fair. Maybe we'll go tomorrow or Saturday, but I'm not sure. Hobby Lobby has their Christmas ornaments 40% off until Saturday and this will be our first year to have a tree, so I think we are going to go there and look for some ornaments. Tim wants to get a real tree, so I guess we will be waiting a while for that! We are going to carve a pumpkin for Halloween sometime soon and I will take pictures of that and post them.

Tim may or may not be going to Dallas this weekend to visit friends but I am probably going to stay in Waco and study for finals since they are coming up soon. Hope everyone is having a good week!

Weekend

Well, we got to meet Carolyn Therese, our new niece, this weekend! She is absolutely adorable and spends most of the day sleeping. For about thirty minutes to an hour before she actually wakes up from one of her naps she grunts, groans, stretches, and makes a noise that sounds like a teradactile. It is pretty hilarious. Kate, our other niece, who is three, comments often about how "beeeeautiful" Carolyn is and how she is now a big sister. We really enjoyed getting to spend the whole weekend with the little girls as well as with Brian and Shannon.

I got a new suit from Ann Taylor Loft for my interview on October 15th. Its black with thin white pin stripes. I have a black suit (both skirt and pants) already but I sometimes don't feel very comfortable in it and it's a three button jacket and sometimes I think it ages me. The one I got is two button and I just got a skirt. I have a complex with pants.

We are hoping that Tim will hear from the place in Fort Worth this week. If he doesn't hear by Wednesday, he might call the guy to check in. So, please don't stop praying for us yet!!

That's about all. I'm trying to get all my work done for the week today so that I can start studying for finals this week. We might also go to the fair on Wednesday because I got a free pass at work. I love fair food and the rides - although the rides scare me a little because I doubt they upkeep them very well. Hopefully Brian will post some pictures he took this weekend on facebook and I'll add them to the blog so y'all can see Carolyn and Kate!
Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Carolyn Therese

We are going to Houston this weekend to visit our new niece, Carolyn. She was born during Hurricane Ike. We are really excited to finally get to meet her. I will post on Sunday about the weekend. Hope everyone has a great one!

Second Interview

I'm a busy poster these past couple days!

I found out about 4:00 this afternoon that I got a second interview with the Harris County District Attorney!! I am so excited about this! They are interviewing a lot of people from several different law schools, but I am still really happy that they liked me enough to offer me a call back. My interview will be on Wednesday, October 15 at 2:00 PM at their office in Houston.

As soon as we hear something about Tim's job, I will let y'all know. Thanks for all the good vibes and prayers y'all have been sending us!

Stillbirth Awareness and Research Act

I have come to "know" many women on The Nest (a website I frequent) who have had stillborn babies, miscarriages, and/or trouble conceiving. I found this on one of those women's blogs that I often read (www.fertileramblings.blogspot.com). I know many of my family that reads this don't have blogs, but I want to do my part to help reach the goal of 100,000 pages coming up with this bill on October 15. Also, I think its important that people know of upcoming bills so, if they feel strongly about something, they can write their Representatives to vote "yes" for the bill. If you do have a blog, please participate and put this on yours!

October 15th is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day in the United States. More than 25,000 children are stillborn in the United States every year leaving mothers, entire families and communities devastated. Estimates of the rate of occurrence of stillbirth make it at least as common as autism.

Stillbirth is not an intractable problem. Greater research would likely significantly reduce it's incidence, but good research requires good data. H.R. 5979: Stillbirth Awareness and Research Act is under consideration by Congress. This proposed bill would standardize stillbirth investigation and diagnosis, thus providing more data for the needed research. Better research means fewer children born still.

On October 15th, remember the thousands of unfinished children lost and the families who remain to grieve them. Honor them by taking action. Let's help pass H.R. 5979.

Action Steps

Step 1. Use Your Blog to Enlist Others-Copy the contents of this entire post and publish it on your blog immediately.
GOAL: Enlist 10 of your readers to spread the word

Step 2. Use Your E-mail to Enlist Others-E-mail 5 bloggers and ask them (nicely and in an unspammy way) to publish these action steps on their blog. Consider contacting celebrity bloggers, political bloggers, medical bloggers, or bloggers who are not part of your reading community.
GOAL: Enlist 3 bloggers outside of your normal blog sphere to spread the word in other online communities.

Step 3. Help Pass the Stillbirth Awareness and Research Act-By October 15th, publish a post on your blog supporting H.R. 5979 Stillbirth Awareness and Research Act. For maximum impact, title your post: "Stillbirth Awareness and Research Act."
GOAL: 1,000,000 Google results on October 15th when that term is searched for. Currently, Google only returns 20,400 pages - most of which have nothing to do with the bill.
