Week 15

I don't have any exciting news from this weekend. I spent the vast majority of the time studying, other than going to dinner with some friends on Friday night and going to church today. I hope all of this studying pays off in the end!

I am 15 weeks today. I think my belly has grown a little, but it might just be from eating too much! This might be a little too much information, but I have definitely grown in the chest area. I started off as a B cup and now I am filling up a D. Probably not a good sign for the rest of the pregnancy if I am already that big!

I look goofy in this picture because Tim was telling me to stop tightening my stomach and I was telling him I wasn't right as he took the picture.

Here's what's going on with the baby this week. This article says it's the size of an apple, but all of the other ones say it's the size of a navel orange and one said the size of a softball.

Your growing baby now measures about 4 inches long, crown to rump, and weighs in at about 2 1/2 ounces (about the size of an apple). She's busy moving amniotic fluid through her nose and upper respiratory tract, which helps the primitive air sacs in her lungs begin to develop. Her legs are growing longer than her arms now, and she can move all of her joints and limbs. Although her eyelids are still fused shut, she can sense light. If you shine a flashlight at your tummy, for instance, she's likely to move away from the beam. There's not much for your baby to taste at this point, but she is forming taste buds. Finally, if you have an ultrasound this week, you may be able to find out whether your baby's a boy or a girl! (Don't be too disappointed if it remains a mystery, though. Nailing down your baby's sex depends on the clarity of the picture and on your baby's position. He or she may be modestly curled up or turned in such a way as to "hide the goods.")

We are finding out somewhere around August 31 what the baby will be. Our doctor only does an ultrasound the first time you go in and at 20 weeks, so we won't have a chance to know before that.

Hope everyone had a great weekend! Sorry there's no exciting news to report. I'll have some fun stuff next weekend after finishing the bar and graduating!

Baby Update & Weekend

I think maybe I should get Tim to blog more often. He's popular among the readers, I see ;)

Nothing much going on here. I am just studying constantly for the bar exam next week. Yikes! I can't believe it is next week and I really do not feel prepared. I hope I feel better by next Wednesday. We spent the weekend not doing much except studying. I had my PC III exam on Friday morning. I should find out this Friday whether I am certified to graduate (i.e., whether I passed). Hopefully there won't be a problem!

I am going to start doing some belly pictures. I want to apologize in advance to Nancy (my stepmom) who thinks these are weird and I told her I probably wouldn't do them! When I get much bigger, I'll probably do them with my shirt over my stomach so it doesn't gross y'all out :) Today I'm going to show you the first one I took and the one from this Sunday so you can see the difference.

June 2, the day I found out I was pregnant. I was 7 weeks 2 days at this point

This past Sunday, July 19. I was exactly 14 weeks. (Excuse the no makeup, tired look. I was about to go to bed)
Also, a little update on Baby T this week:

This week's big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb! Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him — a process he'll keep up until birth. He can grasp, too, and if you're having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him sucking his thumb.

In other news: Your baby's stretching out. From head to bottom, he measures 3 1/2 inches — about the size of a lemon — and he weighs 1 1/2 ounces. His body's growing faster than his head, which now sits upon a more distinct neck. By the end of this week, his arms will have grown to a length that's in proportion to the rest of his body. (His legs still have some lengthening to do.) He's starting to develop an ultra-fine, downy covering of hair, called lanugo, all over his body. Your baby's liver starts making bile this week — a sign that it's doing its job right — and his spleen starts helping in the production of red blood cells. Though you can't feel his tiny punches and kicks yet, your little pugilist's hands and feet (which now measure about 1/2 inch long) are more flexible and active.

Hope everyone had a great weekend and has a wonderful week!

Baby Purchases

We already gave in and purchased two gifts for the baby (or, my mom did as part of my birthday presents :)). I didn't want to just describe the cuteness to y'all, so I took a picture of them.

This is "Spunky" the dog. That was his name on the tag. He is SO soft!

And, of course, being the die-hard Aggies that we are, one of the most essential purchases is the baby's first A&M gear! Aren't they adorable?!

I've got my final tomorrow, so I'm studying hard, but I wanted to post these like I said I would so I would quit thinking about how I needed to do it! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Rigatoni the Roach

Margie's was the kind of place you drive up to and instantly have doubts. There isn't another building for a few blocks, as if the other buildings did not want to be seen hanging with it. But also, at the same time, you just know this is the kind of place that knows how to cook amazing Italian food. It's one of those places where when you walk in for the first time you are a little unsure of yourself. You feel like you are intruding on something that wasn't meant for you. Like the place was doing fine for the last 3000 years with its regular customers and then you walked in. So we are seated in a side booth by the chuckling, slightly offensive, smelly, but kind of idiotically-charming waiter. Lauren's Mom claims he smelled sour, and I would not doubt he could have soured himself, most likely without knowing it. We get a good bottle of wine, and are beginning our delicious salads and bread when I see something out of the corner of my eye. A crawling shadow if you will. But the place was so dark, so mob-movie shadowy I shrugged it off, besides it wasn't crawling by me. Suddenly, all hell breaks out as Rigatoni the Roach makes his appearance. Weighing-in at at least 7 or 8 pounds, he bravely twines his front legs together in defiance of us and at how he made it all the way to the center of the table without our note. I swear I could hear a soft violin play as he skillfully combined front legs in a roach gesture too inappropriate for this blog. He dashes for the safety of the side wall of the booth. Lauren goes into battle mode trying to protect our child. Grabbing the salt shaker she brings it down like an earthquake in rapid succession only to be foiled by Rigatoni's deftly maneuvers. Fleeing from my wife's wrath as any intelligent creature/husband would, he goes the only route to safety.......straight at Lauren's Mom. She straightens up in the booth as if struck by lightening, she pleads with Lauren's Stepdad to move, but no, he does not. He is the only thing between her and safety from the Mobster roach. Yet as if loaded down by cement he does not stray an inch from his seat. He didn't see Rigatoni and therefore doesn't understand the need for her escape. He moves, she moves out, we are all in shock, and Rigatoni is gone. I am still not sure where Rigatoni went, to put out a hit on another roach mob perhaps. But, as I sat in Lauren's Mom's seat the next 20 minutes, I swear he touched my feet at least 10 or 50 times. - Tim

Heartbeats and Birthdays

I guess I should start all the way back on Wednesday....I had my "Big" trial this week - the Titanic one. It was Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Wednesday we went until a little after 6:00 PM, Thursday we went until 8:00 PM, and Friday we went until 9:00 PM. We didn't win, per se, but we didn't get a huge judgment against us like they have in the past, so I was satisfied with the verdict. I only have ONE more class day tomorrow and I am done with law school forever (minus the final...which I have to pass to be done!)!

On Friday, my mom and stepdad came in town for my birthday. They were already here by the time I got home since the trial lasted so late on Friday. My mom had made Chicken Piccatta for me, so that was waiting on me but I had a hard time eating it because the dreaded heartburn has started to hit me. I think I figured out it has to do with eating fast food (I got it twice this week - once when I had eaten Whataburger and once when I had eaten Wendy's), so I am going to try to avoid that now!

Saturday, my stepdad was playing in a golf tournament so my mom, Tim, and I spent the day running around. We got the first gifts for the baby (pictures later, I promise!). I don't want to just described them because they are too cute for words :) We went to Joe T. Garcia's for dinner on Saturday night - I ate Tums before we even got the meal, just in case.

Sunday, we went to church - I wanted to get a blessing for my birthday, to Buttons (this good soul food type restaurant in Fort Worth) for lunch, and then my stepdad got home for dinner. Sunday was my actual birthday (24 now) and I decided to go to this place called Margie's Original Italian for dinner. It's kind of out in no-where but we tasted their food at Beastro at the Fort Worth Zoo and this blog that I love called Fort Worth Hole In The Wall wrote a review about it saying it was really great. I love Italian food so I was so excited. Unfortunately, it was NOT the experience I had hoped for. Tim wants to write the post about that, so that will be following, but I will leave you with the fact that it wasn't a good choice for my birthday dinner. The only good part was my mom and Tim made me a cake earlier in the day that we had for dessert.

Today, Tim had to work and I drove around with my mom and stepdad because we are trying to get them to move here, so we looked at houses. We went to Jake's hamburgers downtown for lunch and then decided to go to Ruth Chris for dinner. It DEFINITELY made up for the bad experience last night and was soooo delicious! I got a Creme Brulee for dessert and a filet and baked potato for dinner.

The big news about today, though, is that we went to the doctor and heard the baby's heartbeat! Although we heard it on our home doppler, it was still a big relief to hear it at the doctor's office because 1) we knew we were hearing the right thing at home and 2) we got a definite measurement of how fast it was going and where the baby is. It was 162 beats/minute which the doctor said was great. He said it isn't true that you can tell what the baby is by how fast its heartbeat is (there is an old wive's tale that if the heartbeat is over 160 beats or something like that that it is going to be a girl). We go back for our next appointment in 4 weeks, on August 10th, and we have the BIG appointment to find out what the baby is in 7 weeks, around August 31st. I can't wait for that one and to get to see the baby again since we haven't gotten to see it since it looked like a little blob (in the picture in our blog header).

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I'll post pictures of the new gifts for the baby and get Tim to post his Margie's story ASAP!

First Comes Love, Then Comes Marriage, Then Comes...

....a baby in a baby carriage!

We are having a baby!!! Baby T is due on January 17, 2010.

I've known for several weeks but I've been keeping it off of here just to make sure everything was going well. That's why I haven't had anything to talk about - because I was keeping a secret from you!

I found out the morning of June 2 and we had our first doctor's appointment on June 12. The picture in my header is from that appointment, when I was 8 weeks 5 days. I am now 12 weeks 1 day and we heard the heartbeat for the first time on our home doppler yesterday!

I want to post the sound of the heartbeat but I recorded it on my phone and my computer doesn't recognize the file from my phone. I will try to record it directly to my computer and post it on here. We have our next doctor's appointment on July 13 - one day after my birthday.

It was a surprise...we weren't planning on getting pregnant just yet but obviously God had different plans for us! We are thrilled and can't wait to add a little one to our little family. We are going to find out what it is going to be but we won't get to do that until the very end of August. I took a test that measures the pH in your urine and changes color to supposedly tell you what you are going to have. It is apparently 82% accurate in the real world and it said we are having a boy! It will be interesting to test it out and see if it was right. I have had a feeling it was a boy from the beginning, though.

That is my BIG news for now! I will update some more later. I'm trying to get a cute new background but Blogger is not cooperating with me. Hopefully I'll have that up soon :)
